The League does not support any political party or candidate. “Empty Chair” Debates  A campaign for federal office requires that a debate must include at least one candidate from at least two campaigns who meet “face to face” (in person or broadcast through a social media platform such as Zoom or YouTube) in order to hold a debate. The League adheres to this requirement. No “empty chairs” will be allowed. No one can substitute for a candidate. If only one candidate accepts an invitation to debate, the only option is to cancel the debate. The “Empty Chair” rule as defined by the FEC holds even if a candidate does not show up at the last minute.
